Integrative Assessment

Our Comprehensive Integrative Assessment provides us with a complete picture of the symptoms you have, and what might be causing them. It begins with a conventional history and physical examination, which focuses on your current symptoms, your past medical history, any testing and treatment you have already undergone and life events that may have contributed to your illness.

How is this different?

The first thing that is different about our approach is that we go into much more detail about your present symptoms. It is important to fully understand what you feel - when, how, where and why. Although this is part of classical medical practice, it is rare in our modern healthcare system to spend enough time with a doctor to tell your story properly. We take the time to go into much more detail than any medical history you have had before. This process can also be very therapeutic, as many of our patients feel that their concerns are being heard for the first time.

The second part of the Comprehensive Integrative Assessment puts all of your medical information together to establish a diagnostic and therapeutic plan. This is based on a number of disciplines and sources of knowledge accumulated over years of study and practice around the world. It considers many factors that are not considered by conventionally-trained physicians, including infections, toxins, emotional stresses, physical injuries, genetics, allergies, lifestyle, nutrition and digestive dysfunction which can influence the body and mind. These factors primarily affect the immune, nervous and endocrine (hormone) systems of the body, which in turn affect the tissues and organs of the body, creating what we call symptoms, syndromes and diseases.

Finally, we always ask about the place where your illness meets your life. How your illness has affected you and your loved ones, your professional and personal life, are important to us. Not only do they help us understand what you are going through - but it sometimes affects the treatment we choose.

Where does this come from?

The assessment is based on a large body of knowledge gathered from many disciplines and traditions. We combine the knowledge and tools of conventional, homeopathic and naturopathic medicine, Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine, environmental medicine and mind-body medicine. We routinely visit and communicate with the best integrative practitioners in the US, South America and Europe. Each of these disciplines offers a unique perspective that is important for understanding the causes of disease and the best way to return to health.

What happens after the assessment?

The next step is testing. This will generally include an extensive series of laboratory tests which are OHIP-insured. In addition to these, we work with a number of specialized laboratories in North America and Europe, allowing us to test for other problems, including infections, toxins, allergies, digestive health, genetic factors, nutritional and biochemical imbalances in your body. These tests are billed directly to patients.

When we have all your test results, we will recommend a program of treatment. This may include diet and lifestyle changes, mind-body practices, therapeutic practices, natural medicines, bio-identical hormones, intravenous (IV) therapies and other disease-specific approaches. Some take place at the Seekers Centre, and others are provided by our growing network of trusted partners in healing.

What does this cost?

The fee for the comprehensive integrative assessment is $245. This includes a review of your intake form, a detailed history and physical examination and an integrative evaluation. The cost of treatment varies widely depending on your specific program of care. Some components of the program have no cost, while others may cost a few hundred dollars per month for a few months.

In Canada, the government pays for conventional healthcare. Most of our patients are surprised to find out how much their routine bloodwork costs taxpayers, and they don't think about the cost of their pharmaceutical drugs because their insurance plans pay for them. We look forward to the day when this kind of innovative medicine, which may resolve health problems that conventional medicine cannot, is recognized and reimbursed.

We do not offer miracle cures and we do not guarantee results, but the vast majority of our patients have seen significant improvements in their health after their treatment with us. Health is wealth. Invest in yours.
